Heat Pump systems are ideal if all of the indoor units are in an open plan area, where simultaneous cooling/heating is not required, or in a situation in which all of the indoor units are on the same face of the building (i.e. all north or south facing).

Heat Recovery systems would be required if the indoor units need to be in different rooms with differing loads, or if different areas of the building to be included on the system have different levels of exposure to the elements. For example, in spring the east side of a building may be warmer due to the sun, whereas the west side may be considerably cooler, requiring the east side to be cooled, and the west side to be heated.
